This is fascinating. I’m a researcher of self aware leadership. It feels like somewhere between self awareness and no awareness there is self deception. For there to be self deception there has to be some awareness of the reality versus the falsehood, even if the reality is only accepted fleetingly

I often thought my bookshelf was much like a dramaturgical act, implying an unseen audience present and judging. Who was, then, the audience of self-deception? Usually me, and occasionally my mother, who added or subtracted books she already read and highlighted, in an ever-so-slight form of domestic anarchy.
I like this idea how self deception can be helpful. Imagine living with all the truths! It’s almost like living with sensing all the stimuli around! You would snap!
The only question is how to define the healthy vs the unhealthy versions...

When we lie, don’t we first practice telling it to ourselves and then convince ourselves that it is so...then we spin it on others as the truth
